I’m on the hunt for my perfect tattoo heart!

Because I’m quite stuck on the traditional Sailor Jerry and Timmy Tatts, there are a lot to choose from!

Timmy Tatts Flash Book Vol.4: A classic book of Traditional flash here from Timmy Tatts. The book is original size American flash 11″x14″ and printed on really heavyweight card. The designs are as they should be with no extra frills, just plain old time vintage tattoo designs finished in watercolour.

Vintage Tattoos

Vintage tattoos is the term we usually give to traditional tattoos in the style of Sailor Jerry Collins, characterised by bold unwavering lines with a refined use of colour and amazing detail.

“Good work ain’t cheap. Cheap work ain’t good.” – Norman “Sailor Jerry” Collins

Sailor Jerry Anchor

Of course, there are other styles of vintage tattoo, but the designs we associate with ‘vintage’ are the anchor, roses, the heart, swallows and the pin up girl.

Vintage Tattoos by Carol Clerk is a good resource for the history behind the tattoos.

“Lavishly presented and illustrated, “Vintage Tattoos” explores the bold, colourful and enduringly popular designs that were perfected across two World Wars, explains their history, symbolism and social significance, and delves into the colourful lives of the era’s most famous practitioners. The book is arranged thematically, beginning with the maritime emblems and circus displays that kickstarted the golden age of vintage design.” Amazon
