Vintage is not necessarily a synonym for Lace & Cupcakes

Calling all wedding event
 organisers!
You are cordially invited...

This year I have taken my Hello Nails! Pop Up Nail Parlour to several ‘vintage’ wedding fayres. I can’t tell you how disappointed I have been! At all of the fayres I have been to, vintage has appeared to be a synonym for ‘lace’ and I wonder why organisers have used the term ‘vintage’ as an all encompassing vogue for pulling in the brides-to-be et al, when actually it’s a regular wedding event pitch. There has been a distinct lack of imagination at all of them!

So imagine how pleased I was to discover this little treasure! A bi-monthly gem of creative vintage brides showcasing unique weddings and wedding fair.

Things that jump out at me as being distinctly game for a creative vintage wedding fayre are:

For the Bride & Groom –

War Bride, Pin Up, Steampunk, Themed Era i.e 1950s, Rockabily or Burlesque.

And for the accessories –

Dried Petal Confetti, Totem tents, Tattoos!, Irregular Choice shoes, Swing dresses and Petticoats, Glass camping lanterns, Paper flowers and Lollipop cake bouquets.

Lollipops!

Butterflies!

A red & black bouquet!

There is so much room for creativity, individuality and expression, that there is only one way to do your wedding and that should be uniquely.

A Rock and Roll Bride and her Groom

A Pin up Bride and her Psychobily Groom

A 1940s War Bride Wedding

So, when you organise a creative vintage wedding fayre, ask me to pop along. I’ll be looking out for something unique!

And Brides-to-be…

Keep your pecker up! xx

Rings

I might have raised your hand to the sky

to give you the ring surrounding the moon

or looked to twin the rings of your eyes

with mine

or added a ring to the rings of a tree by forming a handheld circle with you, thee,

or walked with you

where a ring of church-bells,

looped the fields,

or kissed a lipstick ring on your cheek,

a pressed flower

or met with you

in the ring of an hour, and another hour . . .

I might

have opened your palm to the weather, turned, turned,

till your fingers were ringed in rain

or held you close,

they were playing our song,

in the ring of a slow dance

or carved our names

in the rough ring of a heart

or heard the ring of an owl’s hoot

as we headed home in the dark

or the ring, first thing,

of chorussing birds waking the house

or given the ring of a boat, rowing the lake,

or the ring of swans, monogamous, two,

or the watery rings made by the fish

as they leaped and splashed

or the ring of the sun’s reflection there . . .

I might have tied

a blade of grass,

a green ring for your finger,

or told you the ring of a sonnet by heart

or brought you a lichen ring,

found on a warm wall, or given a ring of ice in winter

or in the snow

sung with you the five gold rings of a carol

or stolen a ring

of your hair

or whispered the word in your ear

that brought us here,

where nothing and no one is wrong,

and therefore I give you this ring.

It’s your day…

“Steampunk Nail Art”

What do you think of when you hear the word “steampunk”?

Does it conjur up images of science fiction, fantasy, gothic, horror, and speculative fiction?  Or perhaps a post-apocalyptic time —that incorporates elements of either science fiction or fantasy? Do the images feature an alternative steam powered history with anachronistic technology, or futuristic innovations as Victorians might have envisioned them?

In couture, “steampunk” would invoke stripes, top hats, goggles, peacock feathers, leather belts, corsets, fuchsia pinks, purples, deep reds and greens…

So why not steampunk your nails too?

Your corset doesn’t have to be the only thing that has stripes…

Give your nails the steampunk treatment…think gothic Victorian fantasy, make a statement, make a declaration of individuality! Build your event around it, style your wedding “steampunk”…
